Introducing TFCL Play!

Okay, so this is going to sound funny. Really, super, funny.
Remember a while back how we said we were going to simplify everything, and just focus on offering a core league experience? How TFCL doesn’t really need to go beyond what makes an esport league, an esport league?

We lied.

Well, it wasn’t technically a lie, more so a general slipup. See, we love the idea of operating a high level professional esport league, but we also love the idea of being able to create a service, and use that service as a means to bring potential new players in.

TFCL Play is designed to be interactive. You go there to play, hence the name. It’s not really meant for the whole seasonal thing, but rather, as a way to engage with and encourage community participation and growth.

Here’s a general breakdown as to what TFCL Play is all about, and why we believe it will play a crucial part in competitive TF2.

1. Server Reservation Network

TFCL Play provides servers in over 30 global locations, from the popular Chicago to the not so popular Honolulu. Twenty of our 100 server capacity is freely available, with all popular league configs preinstalled and ready to go, including the new TFCL configs.

Reserving a server takes between three and seven minutes and will stay up for two hours.

2. Pick Up Games

TFCL Play also provides both lobby-style and captain style pickup games, available for free at all hours of the day.

3. Community (and league) Run Tournaments

TFCL Play provides an easy way for you to create your own tournaments in a very similar way to what Match.tf used to do.

4. [soon] Quickplay / Queue System (12v12)

Set to be released around September, TFCL Play will offer a quickplay system very similar to Queue.tf or Faceit.
The idea is simple; hop into a slightly more serious casual match, using popular maps and modes that you’re already familiar with.

5. Advanced API + Whitelabel League

TFCL Play is the backbone to all things TFCL. Since we need to create an API to hook into our main league anyway, we figured we’d make this API public. What this means, is that anyone can use TFCL Play’s entire infrastructure and feature-set to power and run their own tournament platform, or even a full league if that’s more your style.

While we will limit our advanced API functionality behind a paywall, we will still provide a public read-only API for those building apps or services that need or want it.

We want you to use our platform to power your platform.

That’s Just the Beginning

TFCL Play is always evolving. We’re not here to simply offer a rival to RGL PUGs, or any other pickup game platform. TFCL Play is more than that. We are attempting to unify and grow the competitive Team Fortress 2 scene by providing and encouraging daily activity.

We will have more to share soon.
